Spring Cleaning for the Soul
Life is overflowing with responsibilities, so you're not alone if you haven’t found the time (or desire) for a deep spring cleaning. While the laundry piles up and dishes seem never-ending, there’s another kind of clean-up that deserves your attention. Emotional clutter is real, and it can overtake your heart, leaving you with an absolute mess.
When burdens, worries, and past hurts stack up, it’s harder to embrace the joy God has for us. So, let’s forget the mops and dusters for a second and talk about a different kind of spring cleaning—the kind that leaves your soul feeling lighter and freer.
Sweeping Away Emotional Clutter
As mamas, life comes at us fast, and sometimes, we don’t even realize the emotional clutter we’ve accumulated along the way. Stress, expectations, worries about the future—it all adds up. Just like a cluttered space can leave us feeling overwhelmed, carrying too much emotional baggage can make it harder to embrace the joyful, abundant life God offers us.
What’s taking up space in your heart that no longer belongs there?
Maybe it’s resentment toward someone who hurt you, guilt over past mistakes, or fear of the unknown. Whatever it is, it’s time to release it. Not because those feelings aren’t valid, but because you deserve the freedom that comes from letting go.
Dust Up on Healthy Boundaries
Boundaries aren’t about keeping people out; they’re about protecting what God has placed in you. Think of them like a “No Junk Mail” sign on the mailbox of your heart. If a relationship is draining you, if certain conversations leave you feeling defeated, if a habit keeps pulling you backward—it’s time to put some guardrails in place.
Guard your PEACE. You don’t have to answer every call, reply to every message, or entertain every opinion about your life.
Guard your YES. Not everything (or everyone) deserves your time and energy. Give yourself permission to say no.
Guard your HEART. Be mindful of who and what you let in. Don’t let toxic relationships, negative self-talk, or unrealistic expectations fill the place where God’s joy and love are meant to grow.
When you establish healthy boundaries, you’ll have more time and energy to invest in what fills you up. Whether it’s prayer, worship, journaling, or just a few minutes of silence—make space for what refreshes your soul.
Decluttering to Make Room for Joy
When we hold onto things that don’t serve us, we have no room for what God is trying to give us. Imagine carrying around a bag of heavy bricks labeled “hurt,” “worry,” and “shame.” Imagine dropping those weighty bags and freeing your hands to receive peace, joy, and hope.
God’s got new things for you, but you have to clear the space to receive them. Isaiah 43:18-19 says, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!"
Spring is here, mama—it’s time to let go of the old and make room for the new.
Freshening Up Your Faith
Like stepping outside on a perfect spring day and breathing in that fresh, fragrant air, you can step out in faith and breathe new life into your soul. Today is your chance to start shaking off the dust of doubt, insecurities, expectations, and fears and embrace all the hope, joy, love, and peace God is offering you. God’s mercies are new every morning.
Lamentations 3:22-23 says,
"Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Start small. Pray, journal, talk to a trusted friend, or simply ask God, “What do You want me to release?” Then, trust that whatever He asks you to release, He has something better waiting.
