Opening the Door to Her Dream
Ever since her divorce in 2006, it had been a dream of Nilsa’s to own her own home.
Like most single parents, her journey included many moves. Financially challenged with debt from a divorce, she was limited to the places she and her three children could live. Many of the places she called home included roaches and rodents. At one point, her family of four lived in a one-bedroom apartment and were soon facing the possibility of living in their car.
It was hard for her to feel hope in the face of homelessness, until the day God opened the door for her at Shepherd’s Village.
Nilsa learned how to budget and live with little while giving big. At a Life Skills meeting, she was introduced to Candi with Habitat of Humanity. That’s when the dream of owning her own home started to become a reality. After 13 months, 16 homeowner classes, and 350 sweat-hours, Nilsa closed the door on homelessness and opened the door to her dreams. Nilsa and her children moved into their beautiful, new home.
Nilsa’s life had been going in all the wrong directions until she made a YOU-turn to Shepherd’s Village.
